We recently took a working vacation about two hours to the north in a city called San Francisco de Macorís. Our hearts have been burdened for several years for a church to be started in that part of the country. In our view it is one of the hardest areas in the entire country in which to start a church and yet at the same time, it may hold more potential to raise up future church leaders and churches than any other area in the country.
Our January-February 2007 prayer letter is available for download.
Recently, our church had a service and a pot luck dinner at a city park. Here are some pictures of Benjamin and Meagan flying a kite with a family from our church. By the way, we did have a good service with several visitors. In all, I think there were about fifty people who went.
The first Baptist church for the Dominican people was planted around 1950. Since that time, there have been dozens of churches started across the southern parts of the country. Many of those churches were started through Baptist-Mid Missions or somehow were related to churches that were started under the influence of Baptist-Mid missionaries. Throughout the southern regions, there remains much work to be done and many areas still without a fundamental gospel witness.
Why is Linux deserving of a page on our ministry website?
1. power outages daily lasting from 1-12 hours
2. longer power outages in the country
3. running water that sometimes smells like sewer water
4. no running water to smell at all
5. drinking water is sold in 5 gallon jugs
6. driving is on the right and left and middle sides of the road
7. driving is also off the road
8. people who are friendly and helpful
9. palm trees
10. skinny cows and horses
11. people who will work hard
12. people who will hardly work
One of the ladies in our church recently called with some exciting news. She had just led her oldest daughter to the Lord that day! Her daughter is seven - the same age I was when I was saved. Since Hannah led the mother to the Lord a couple of years ago, to my knowledge, this marks the first time that one of the people who has been saved through our ministry has led someone else to the Lord.
Also, this makes the second young person in our church "family" to make a profession of faith this year.

We just received a new member into our church here in Santo Domingo! We are especially excited since she was one of the first people who attended the Bible studies we started in our home about four years ago before we even started the church. Hannah led her to the Lord a couple of years ago and I baptized her a year ago this month. We are still praying for the salvation of her husband.
